Lesson 1: Posture and Spinal Alignment

Proper posture during treatment is one of the most overlooked aspects of this profession. When
focused on the client’s skin, it is easy to hunch the shoulders forward, drop the chin, or lean from the
waist instead of adjusting the treatment surface. Over time, these habits create chronic strain in the
cervical spine, upper back, and lower back.

Keep the spine neutral, shoulders relaxed and back, and chin level. If you find yourself bending or
craning to see the treatment area, the chair needs to come up, not your back.
