Lesson 2: Burn Classification (General Reference)

Not all burns present the same, and presentation may change over time.

First degree
Redness, warmth, and discomfort with the skin surface remaining intact.

Second degree
Blistering, oozing, and increased pain with a compromised skin barrier.

Third degree
White, brown, or black appearance with a waxy or leathery texture. Pain may be reduced.
