PFB follows the follicle pattern and shows up in shaved areas. You will often see curved or trappedhair sitting just under the surface.
Acne does not present this way. It does not follow the follicle pattern and does not involve hairgrowing back into the skin.
Active PFB is raised and irritated. Pigment left behind is flat. Both can exist at the same time.
