The handpiece should be held with a relaxed but controlled grip, not tight or tense. Gripping with excessive force, even unconsciously, creates repetitive strain in the fingers, hand, and forearm over time.
The wrist should remain in a neutral position as much as possible, and movement across the skin should come from the shoulder and elbow, not from the wrist alone.
Wearing a wrist guard or brace during treatment can help reduce stress on the wrist. A wrist guard helps maintain a neutral, supported position and reduces the risk of injury. Many technicians do not think about wrist support until they are already in pain. Starting early is more effective than trying to correct an injury later.
